Origins and evolution
Around the 70s, cousins Pep Plana and Lluís Figuerola were selling and restoring rustic properties in the region of Alt Camp, when they came accross the old home of Masmolets. This was a half-ruined property with a special charm that made the house different from all the rest. The family got excited with the house’s restoration, and considering the potential it had, decided to turn it into a restaurant, preserving all the original spaces and rooms.
So that’s how Pep and Lluís opened Cal Ganxo in November of 1980, a restaurant named after the family’s home name (renowned home). The success the restaurant has had ever since is due to the faith that’s been put in the calçotada and the constant supervision of Grandma Cisqueta de Cal Ganxo, who transmitted the knowhow from generation to generation, which has turned Cal Ganxo into a great traditional restaurant, a quality model in the calçotada’s culture.
Following Grandma Cisqueta’s advice, Pep, Lluís and his wife Joana managed to grow the restaurant, to which followed Loli, Pep‘s wife, shortly after. While the restaurant was consolidating, both in the region and the rest of Catalunya, the children of both couples, Lluís (Lluís and Joana‘s son) and Alexandra (Pep and Loli‘s daughter) would be playing around and having fun, soaking in the calçots’ aroma, tradition and culture.
No surprise then that, a few years later, both would become an important part of the team of Cal Ganxo, which is still managed today following the values of a united family. Three generations dedicated to catering and calçotada in Cal Ganxo, where constant work and quality over time have created a family-like link with customers, who have also inherited the tradition of enjoying a calçotada in Cal Ganxo from generation to generation.
